Moldova is often unfairly labelled as “the most boring country in Europe”. Moldova is actually one of my favourite countries on the continent. It has a decent wine scene, behind the likes of France and Italy but not many others on the continent. It really comes into its own with the Soviet iconography on display, particularly in the breakaway republic of Transnistria which feels like a 1980s time capsule with Lenin statues everywhere.
My experiences visiting Transnistria, a breakaway Moldovan territory with strong Russian links that carefully preserves and embraces its Soviet Union past.
