FAQ
Are you a travel agent?
No. I am an experienced traveller who has been fortunate enough to see a lot of the world on my journey towards visiting every country and can share many tips I’ve learned along the way to make your experience much better.
I’ve made many mistakes over the years so you don’t have to!
Why should I book a travel planning session with you?
I can help you with tips on any country I’ve been to, regions I know well and general travel advice, including safety which is one of the most important factors to consider. I can offer advice coming from first hand experience to save you hours of planning and give you the most enjoyable trip possible.
My solo travel safety guide offers some tips for staying safe on the road, but with my vacation planning services, I will offer advice targeted more specifically towards your chosen destination(s).
Will you book my hotels, transport, activities etc?
No. I am offering a planning and advice service only. I am not a travel agent and will only give tips, without doing any of the actual booking.
Which countries and regions can you offer advice for?
I will only offer advice on places I have been to which I have a good knowledge of. These places are mostly centered around Central America, South America, East Asia (including Southeast Asia) and Eastern Europe.
Which countries and regions do you not cover?
At the time of writing, I have not been to much of Africa, the Caribbean or Oceania and therefore cannot help you with those regions. I also will not offer detailed advice on Western Europe or the USA as I’ve only covered these places in patches.
I believe that if you are paying for a travel advisory service then you should receive the best advice possible, and for these regions I cannot offer you that.
What travel styles do you cover?
The majority of my trips have been as a solo budget backpacker, although I’ve also done a fair bit of travel with friends and couples travel. As a result, these are the main travel types I can assist with. I have a lot of experience travelling on a tight budget and staying in hostels, although there are some places such as Bali and Kuala Lumpur where I can advise of “luxury on a budget”.
What do you specialise in other than specific destinations?
Budgeting and safety are two areas where I’ve picked up a lot of knowledge in recent years.
My goal is to visit every country, and previous travellers who have achieved this say it will cost around ยฃ100,000-ยฃ150,000 to achieve. Therefore it’s important for me to travel cheaply, and I can share a lot of information about staying in hostels and finding affordable transport on the road.
Likewise, visiting every country means going to war zones and other unstable places. I’ve been to the likes of war-torn Myanmar and El Salvador, which is very safe now but was the world’s most violent country until an incident just two weeks before my visit sparked a major crackdown on gangs. I’ve learned how to navigate such places without issues, and will continue to gather more information as my travels take me to more far-flung corners of the world.
If you have any questions on travelling cheaply or staying safe, let me help you!
Can you help create a custom travel itinerary for me?
Yes! I can come up with a list of places for you to visit on your trip, how long I would recommend spending in each place, and how to get between destinations. Ground transportation such as car, bus or train is often best. But for larger countries, flying may be a smarter idea. And for large nations made up of multiple islands (Indonesia or the Philippines for example), you may sometimes need to rely on boats to get around.
